Check out our new paper describing the flyGrAM: a cost efficient method to monitor fly activity. We developed an easy-to-use apparatus and accompanying software (available at https://github.com/kaunlab) that can measure activity of groups of flies. It's sensitive enough to look at subtle changes in behavior to different concentrations of alcohol and is great for monitoring optogenetic manipulation of activity. We characterized the best genetic backgrounds and basic opto parameters to use to make your life easier. It's great for teaching optogenetics in a classroom setting!
